Attorney's appearing for Ven. Galagoda aththe Gnanasara Thero in the case pertaining to obstructing the duty of two police officers, sought the release of the thero during a hearing at the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today (May 10).
Ven. Gnanasara Thero, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) was charged with obstructing the duties of two policemen who were engaged in an anti-narcotic exercise in Welikada in 2017.
A charge sheet was submitted against the BBS General Secretary claiming that he was part of several unlawful gatherings that had disrupted the duties of two policemen. However, President's Counsel Tirantha Walaliyadda countered the charges by pointing out that there was no truth to such unsubstantiated claims.
Considering the submissions of both parties, the Colombo Additional Magistrate instructed that the advice of the Attorney General be sought on the case. Accordingly, the case was fixed for further hearing on June 07.
Meanwhile, the investigations carried out by the Organised Crimes Preventive Division into the case has also been concluded, court heard today.
