Leave for all bus drivers, conducters and technicians of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has been cancelled in view of the planned strike set to be launched by private bus associations tomorrow (17).
Private bus unions say they will launch an island-wide strike from midnight today as they are not satisfied with the Government's decision to hike bus fares by 6.5 per cent due to the recent fuel price hike.
Under the price hike approved by Cabinet yesterday, the minimum bus fare of Rs.10 will remain unchanged.
Private bus unions however, want the minimum fare increased to Rs.15 and an overall 20 per cent increase in bus fares.
