Sri Lanka’s domestic gas price is likely to be increased by 8 per cent to mitigate the effects of LP gas price fluctuations in the world market, official sources revealed.
This proposal was made to the cabinet and it is yet to be approved, a top official said adding that the final decision on LP gas price revision should be taken by Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.
However the proposal to purchase 300,000 MT of LP Gas from M/S Shell International Eastern Trading Company in 2017-2018, was approved by the Cabinet.
The current price of a 12.5 kg cylinder of LP gas is Rs. 1,496 while a cylinder of 5 kg LP gas is sold at Rs. 632. Price of a cylinder of 2.3 kg LP gas is Rs. 300.
