Former Navy Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi has been further remanded until August 7 over the alleged abduction and disappearance of 11 youths between 2008 and 2009.
The order was issued when the case was taken up before Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake today (Jul 31).
During the hearing, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed court that they had obtained a statement from former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda over the incident.
The CID also told court that a statement needed to be obtained from President's Counsel (PC) Shavendra Fernando in connection with the case.
Court heard that PC Fernando, who had provided legal assistance on behalf of the Attorney General's department in his capacity as Deputy Solictior General to file the case, had allegedly advised prosecutors to file the case by concealing the facts.
The CID requested court to issue an order to Fernando PC, instructing him to provide a statement to the CID, since he had failed to do so despite notices issued previously to that effect.
Meanwhile, the case filed against 11 others over the case is due to be taken up before the Fort Magistrate's court on September 11.
