The Madras High Court Bench here on Wednesday closed a public interest litigation petition filed last year against a commercial deal between Goa Shipyard Limited and the Sri Lankan government for supplying two Offshore Patrol Vehicles (OPVs) used for surveillance and rescue operations.
Justices R. Sudhakar and V.M. Velumani held that there was no necessity for the court to pass orders on the issue in view of the submission made by the Centre that the deal was not to sell warships, as contended by the petitioner, but only OPVs intended to enhance maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
