Major General Shavendra Silva has been appointed as the 53rd Army Chief-of-staff by President Maithripala Sirisena today (Jan 09).
Maj. Gen. Silva who joined the Army in 1984 was appointed as an army officer a year later.
The newly-appointed Chief-of-staff has also received several accolades such as the Veerawickrama Vibooshana, Ranawickrama, and Ranashoora titles
