Man who allegedly injured policeman in Kilinochchi arrested

A suspect identified as the individual who allegedly attacked and injured a policeman in Kilinochchi with a broken bottle, has been taken into custody. 

The suspect was arrested yesterday and produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate's Court, who remanded him in custody till October 31. 

The attack occurred on October 25 during a protest against the alleged police killings of two youths in Jaffna. The protestors had attempted to block the A9 Road.

A tense situation arose after police attempted to prevent the group from blocking the main road. During the heated exchange of words that arose between police and protestors, a broken bottle was allegedly thrown by an individual who police said, was thought to be under the influence of liqour, had thrown a bottle at police. The bottle had struck the face of a police officer, injuring him. 

The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. 

The suspect was subsequently arrested in Dharmapuram, Kilinochchi.
