Measure being taken to bring back stranded Lankans in Yemen

Urgent measures are being taken to have Sri Lankans stranded in Yemen brought back to the island in stages  with the assistance of Indian and Kenyan Embassies, an Official of the Foreign Affairs Ministry was quoted by local media. According to media reports about 67 Sri Lankans are caught up in the war in Yemen. The Sri Lankan Mission in Oman is currently coordinating the evacuation efforts as there was no Sri Lankan Embassy in Yemen. He said some of the stranded Sri Lankans were reported  to have proper travel documents with them. However, he said steps have been taken to facilitate their return to the country. He said the stranded Sri Lankans would be brought back either by sea or air. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs  has urged the next of kin of Sri Lankans in Yemen to provide the contact details of their relatives to the Ministry by e-mail or telephone, - MFA, Consular Division 0115839414 / 0112323015 consular@sltnet.lk / cypher@mea.gov.lk; OR request their relatives in Yemen to provide the information to the Sri Lanka Embassy in Muscat, - Charge d' Affaires/Oman 0096 895863739/ 0096 899898836, lankaemb@omantel.net.om) The Ministry is to continue to closely monitor the situation in Yemen and is making every effort to ensure the safe evacuation of Sri Lankans in Yemen back home.
