Met Dept warns of heavy rain and lightning
Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the low pressure zone where the Northern and Southern hemispheric winds meet, is affecting the weather over the island. Hence showery weather with lightning activity can be expected, especially during the afternoon and night, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m.
However, showers may occur in the Western and Southern provinces and in the Puttalam district, in the morning as well.
Fairly heavy falls (about 75-100 mm) are also likely at some places.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces during the morning.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The Department has also requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
