Minister M H A Haleem has requested the President that after investigations are conducted to release Kurunegala Hospital Dr Z S Mohamed Safi who was arrested for acquiring assets under suspicious circumstances.
The request was made when a group of Muslim parliamentarians and ministers met with the President yesterday (May 25).
During the discussion, Muslim Religious Affairs and Posts Minister Haleem had told the President that the doctor could have accumulated several assets since he and his wife, who is also a doctor, were operating other businesses as well.
Mr. Haleem had also requested the President to appoint individuals who were fluent in Arabic to assist the Police in identifying the contents of certain Arabic books which were seized from the doctor's residence.
