A suspect involved in the assault and damaging of a vehicle belonging to popular singer Rookantha Gunathilaka was arrested today (Feb 25), Mirihana Police said.
Mr Gunatileke who was on the judges panel of a talent show programme organised by a private tv channel had been assaulted on the evening of Feb 23 in Boralesgamuwa.
It is reported that Mr Gunathileke was assaulted by a supporter of a competitor who failed to be selected to the next round in the contest and was critiqued by the judges. The suspect had subsequently inflicting damage to Mr Gunathileke's vehicle.
The suspect has been identified as a 68 year old resident of Villavalawaththa, Lunugamwehera Divulapitiya.
The police said the suspect was arrested following investigations conducted in the Divulapitiya Police Division.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Gangodawila Magistrate.
