As NADA cyclonic storm advancing to the North and Eastern coasts, a person was killed in Mirusuvil, Jaffna early this morning due to the bad weather prevailing in the region.
The victim was identified as Satchithananthan Kajeendran, 31 year old father of a child killed when a tree along the road fell on his vehicle as he was on his way to hospital. He was attached to the Regional Health Services Department office in Chavakachcheri
Normalcy was also disrupted as heavy winds with shower continue in the Northern and Eastern provinces. Fishermen in Mannar were also stopped from going to sea as a severe weather warning issued by the Fisheries Department.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the cyclonic storm (“NADA”) in the South-west Bay of Bengal is now located around 200km to the north-east of Kankasanturai coast and it is expected to move north-westward.
It is likely to cross North Tamil Nadu coast on today midnight. Under the influence of the above system very strong winds and heavy showers are expected in the Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces, until December 2.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces. Fairly heavy falls (about75 mm) can be expected at some places. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere, the Met Department said.
