Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) member and son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa, has denied any involvement of his family in the murder of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
Speaking to the BBC Sinhala service, Namal Rajapaksa said that he and his family were very close to Thajudeen and had often visited his house while he and Thajudeen were in school together aswell.
Rajapaksa said his family has been blamed unfairly that he could freely say his family had no part in Thajudeen's murder.
The Colombo Additional Magistrate yesterday gave the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) approval to exhume the body of Wasim Thajudeen on Monday August 10.
Earlier court decided to consider a request to exhume Thajudeen’s body after the CID said that there was suspicion over the manner in which he died. Thajudeen was earlier believed to have been killed in a car accident but later there suspicion arose that he was murdered.
