UPFA Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa and seven others in remand custody over the incidents that occured during protests held on the previous week in the area over proposed plans to hand over operations of the Mattala airport to a private firm were granted bail today.
Mr Rajapaksa was released on bail of f Rs 500,000 each of three sureties.
Mp , DV Chanaka was also released but 32 others including MP Prasanna Ranaweera were further remanded.
Nearly 40 persons were arrested and remanded following the during the Joint Opposition-organised protest opposite the Indian Consulate in Hambantota.amidst reports that an Indian company was due to be handed over the operation of the loss making airport.
Police said that suspects were arrested for unruly behavior and damaging public property including a police jeep.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
