UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa has slammed remembrance events held in in the north and east, questoning if such events were part of remembering terrorists.
"So many "remembrance" events today under the guise of honouring victims, despite court orders" Rajapaksa said on his official Twitter account.
He went on to tweet “How many of these might be honouring terrorists? Is the Government condoning it by turning a blind eye?”
Several remembrance events were held across the north and east today to mark the end of the war in 2009.
Northern Province Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran and other politicians took part in an event in Mullivaikkal in Mullaitivu, despite a ban on pro-LTTE events.
Meanwhile, it is reported that former president Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to take part in a war heroes’ memorial event later today.
The government ‘Remembrance Day’ will be held tomorrow at Matara.
