National Integration & Reconciliation week from January 8-14

The Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation declared this week that a "National Integration Week" would be observed every year from 8th to 14th January following a cabinet approval, a statement from Secretary office said.

The dates are aligned to the date of assumption of office by President Mithiripala Sirisena, as this Government has focused on unity, national integration and reconciliation as an important theme. Currently the ministry is mandated with the responsibility of promoting peace, unity and harmony among the communities in the country which is fundamental for sustainable development. 

Considering the National importance of integration and reconciliation, President Sirisena has brought this Ministry under his direct purview and is also the Minister in-charge of this Ministry. 

The Main aim of this initiative is to promote among communities of different ethnic, religious, cultural and regional diversities about the unity, peace, affection and brotherhood. This is a "nation building" effort that lays foundation for united, strong, reconciled and prosperous nation which recognizes “Unity in Diversities” said Mr.V.Sivagnanasothy, Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation.

In the national integration and reconciliation week, it is proposed to conduct the programmes island-wide such as Promote national integration among school children, sensitization and awareness, encourage Private sector involvement in integration programmes, North South Dialogue and Inter-Village Exchange Programmes and competition to promote national integration.recon
