Naval personnel attached in Sampoor in the Eastern Naval Command arrested 23 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the seas off Sampoor yesterday, Navy said.
During the arrest, 3 Fiber Glass Dinghies, 3 monofilament nets and 2 Diving Masks were taken into naval custody. The arrested fishermen and the items were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector in Muttur for onward action.
An Attorney at law and his wife was shot dead in the car park of a super market in Akuregoda today evening.
