Several weapons and ammunition were recovered under the Gengea bridge by Navy personnel yesterday (May 21).
The Navy launched an underwater search operation on May 18 after a shot gun and grenades were found entangled in fishing nets near the bridge by fishermen.
Seven hand grenades, 34 bullets used for Type-56 rifle, a Type-56 rifle magazine, a bolt (part of the operating mechanism) of a Sub-machine gun (SMG) and a Mobile phone with a SIM card were discovered by Navy divers during the search.
The items were handed over to Muthur Police for further investigations.
More search operations under the Gengea bridge, are currently underway by a naval diving team attached to the Eastern Naval Command.
