Navy personnel are currently engaged in operations to remove debris clogged in Pitabeddara bridge, Matara District.
The bridge which combines Pitabeddara and Siyambalagoda Rotumba, Pasgoda has been congested with debris and wooden logs, from the underside, as a result of the flash floods and hampered the downstream of water. Consequently, the Akuressa area was further vulnerable to a flood situation due to the rising water level of Nilwala River last night (May 28).
According to a statement having been alerted of this disaster situation, the Navy promptly dispatched a team of 71 naval personnel belonging to the Special Boat Squadron and Marine Battalion along with 06 navy divers to the location to address this emergency.
