A hidden stock of dried turmeric weighing 1067kg was recovered in Puttalam yesterday during a special search operation carried out by the Navy. One suspect was also taken into custody, Navy said.
During this special operation carried out at 02nd Mile Post on Puttalam-Mannar Road, Naval personnel recovered a stock of dried turmeric hidden at a salt manufacturing outlet in the area. The consignment of turmeric weighing 1067kg had been stuffed in 25 sacks.
The 37 year old suspect along with the recovered stock of dried turmeric was handed over to the Puttalam Police for onward legal action.
