The Navy rescued an injured fisherman in the seas off the southern coast on Monday in response to a request made by the Fisheries Department. According to naval sources the injured fisherman was brought ashore to the Galle Harbour by Sri Lankan Naval Ship Samudura. The fisherman had sustained serious injuries when he had fallen overboard from the five manned fishing trawler 'Sithsara' he was traveling in. The multi-day fishing craft had left for high seas for fishing from the Beruwela Harbour on June 12, a statement from navy said. Upon being rescued the injured fisherman was given preliminary treatment by Naval personnel and later was dispatched to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
