National Identity Card (NIC)'s will be issued for students from the age of 15 from next month, Department for Registration of Persons Commissioner General Viyani Gunathilaka said.
Accordingly, Mr. Gunathilaka noted that the Department would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education and the Examinations Department in due course.
Generally, NIC's are issued for students at the age of 16 prior to the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations. However, the Commissioner General explained that certain students face delays in obtaining their NIC cards before the exam.
He noted that around 350,000 students are expected to receive their identity cards at the age of 15 this year.
