No more power cuts from today - Ministry
The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy has announced that there will be no more power cuts from today (19) as Unit 2 of the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai has recommenced generating electricity.
Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that, though they had initially planned to reactivate Unit 2 by Thursday, the dedication of the officials in charge had ensured that it was made ready for use by this evening, enabling authorities to stop the island-wide power cuts.
He added that he was hopeful that the other two units could also be made available to the national grid soon.
