North-East monsoonal conditions are gradually establishing over the country, the Department of Meteorology said today.
Several spells of light showers will occur in the Eastern, Uva, Northern and North-central provinces and in the Hambantota district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00pm.
Fairly heavy falls (more than 50mm) and fairly strong winds can be expected at some places (particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces).
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
