Though curfew has been lifted in the Nuwara Eliya district, local health authorities have instructed restaurant owners not to allow customers to dine in at their premises, but only sell food parcels as takeaway.
Health officials say the decision to only allow takeaways from restaurants was made as having customers dine in at these establishments creates a health risk given that many people would be eating on the premises at the same time.
Restaurant owners in Nuwara Eliya say not allowing customers to dine in has created enormous difficulties for them as they hardly have any customers on account of it. They claim that most customers are reluctant to purchase takeaway food.
