One individual has been arrested over the possession of counterfeit currency by the police in Jalthara, Embulgama today (Jan 19).
The arrest was made after the police had rounded up a place which is suspected to have been used in printing the currency. Police had also confiscated a printer along with 48 counterfeit Rs 1000 notes.
Earlier, police had arrested an individual who had used counterfeit currency to purchase goods in Welipillewa, Jalthara. The suspect was arrested while he was in possession of eight counterfeit Rs 1000 notes.
Details regarding the house in which the notes were printed came to light following a questioning carried out on the suspect.
