The National Police Commission has launched an online portal to assist the public in filing complaints against the police department.
Complaints against police officers or the police service could be filed on http://www.npc.gov.lk/public-complaints/. The status of the complaint could also be monitored afterwards.
The UN Peacebuilding Fund has provided financial assistance for the project.
Speaking at the launch of the web portal, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya pointed out that the people have the right to fight for their rights in a democratic country.
However, he observed that there is a certain threshold for protest marches and demonstrations since it inconveniences the public.
