Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has expressed concern with regard to the government's decision to sign an agreement with the US Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
Issuing a statement, Rajapaksa stated that "no agreement should be hurriedly signed with a foreign government just two days before a decisive presidential election.".
He pointed out that the contents of this agreement, should be made public, and debated in Parliament.
"If this agreement will be as beneficial to Sri Lanka as is made out, why is everything shrouded in secrecy?" the opposition leader queried in his statement.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (Oct 30) told reporters that the agreement with MCC which would see a grant of USD 400 million being given to Sri Lanka, will be signed before the presidential election on November 16.
