The country wide token strike launched today by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) left many patients stranded in government hospitals with immense difficulties.
The Out Patient Department (OPD) of the Colombo National Hospital witnessed patients returning back to their houses in glum after being told by officials that the hospital was not functioning as doctors engaged on strike campaign.
Meanwhile patients with appointments for their clinic had arrived in the morning only to receive a confirmation to leave at two in the afternoon.
Many patients were disappointed over that they are victimized whenever there is a strike as they are deprived from their monthly mandatory medical clinics. However the GMOA called off the token strike following a discussion held with the Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake this afternoon.
