The writ petition filed against the functioning of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister along with his cabinet of ministers was withdrawn a short while ago.
The Attorney representing the prosecution had told court that the petition would be withdrawn since one of the expectations of the petition has been fulfilled.
An interim order was issued by the Appeal Court barring the functioning of Mr. Rajapaksa as a Premier and his cabinet of 49 ministers on December 03 last year.
Meanwhile, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the respondents in the petition had informed court that the appeal petition filed against the interim order would also be withdrawn in due course.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and 122 parliamentarians representing several parties including the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) had filed the petition in December last year.
