Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament today that elections to local authorities would be held in January.
He said the decision not to hold the poll was due to the Budget debate which will end on December 9 as well as the Ordinary level examination that month.
“We are not afraid to face elections. We have all agreed to hold the elections under the new electoral system,” he said.
