Police bust attempt to smuggle drugs into prisons

Police in Gandara have busted a racket which helped smuggle narcotics into prisons. According to police, the smuggling was done by persons who hid the drugs in their rectums. 

The racket came to light after police searched an arrested suspect who was behaving suspiciously inside a holding cell at the Gandara Police Station. 

He had been arrested after failing to present himself to courts for possession of drugs. While he was being held in the cell to be produced before the Matara Magistrate's Court, officers had observed that the suspect was behaving rather suspiciously. Police had then proceeded to search the suspect, whereupon they found a specialized balloon inside in his underwear containing 2.8 grams of heroin and 14 grams of Kerala Ganja. 

The suspect had been trying to stuff the balloon into his recturm before he was presented to courts but had found it difficult as there were seven other suspects in the holding cell with him, police stated.

Police are now questioning the 33-year-old suspect to establish whether he had smuggled drugs into the prison this way on previous occasions, and whether he has any accomplices.
