Policed today busted a racket involved in production of forged driving licenses , vehicle registration papers and revenue license at a location adjoining the Registration of Motor vehicles Department in Narahenpita.
The Borella police found a large number of driving liceneses and other doucments in addition to rubber stamps of 23 Officers in Charge of Police stations among other items. Rubber stamps of the Commissioner General as well as other seals of senior officers in the RMV was also detected.
Police investigations revealed that those involved in the racket had produced necessary documentation for transfer of vehicles, registration of vehicles and other necessary documentations.
A number of forged driving and riding licenses had been issued for a prolonged period. Some of them had produced the licenses to policemen and regular check points and got away without being detected.
One person was arrested from the location, but police are searching for the mastermind involved in the racket.
Police said they were surprised to find such bogus centre operating just adjoining the RMV without the knowledge of the RMV. “It may well be they had had inside support of the RMV including officers to operate this racket.”
