According to local media reports Police have opened fire using tear gas and water cannons at student protesters in Colpetty. The protesting students were marching towards Temple Trees when the police fired tear gas.Students commenced a protest march near the Sri Jayawardenepura University citing several grievances. Heavy vehicular traffic was reported owing to the protest, from a number of areas including the Galle Road, Thunmulla junction, Bambalapitiya and Colpetty junction. Police have advised motorists to use alternative routes.
