Police have fired tear gas and water canons to disperse a group of protestors along the Parliament Road a short while ago.
Students from the Sabaragamuwa University had carried out the protest citing certain problems on the intake of students to the Social Sciences and Languages Faculty of the university.
Heavy traffic has been reported along the Parliament Road due to the protest.
