A special police search operation will get underway today (Mar 12) in a bid to arrest some 11,000 warranted suspects, Senior Crimes DIG Nandana Munasinghe said.
He noted that this island-wide operation would be carried out under the directives of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
These operations would be set in motion by the Police Organised Crimes Preventive Division, and the Special Task Force, Mr. Munasinghe said adding that he too would be involved in this exercise.
The highest number of warranted suspects have been recorded in the Western Province with figures standing as high as 6000 out of an approximate 11,000 across the country. These suspects are known to have links with drug related crimes, Senior DIG Munasinghe said.
IGP Jayasundara has issued instructions to all police divisions to make a minimum of one arrest per day in a bid to curb the number of suspects wanted on warrant at large.
