The son of a police officer who had fled the Bambalapitiya area following a motor vehicle accident which left a police officer critically injured, was arrested yesterday (Feb 23).
The accident had taken place at around 4:35 am between a defender jeep and a motorcycle, police said.

Police said that four students belonging to a leading school in Colombo were travelling in the jeep that had taken a turn into Thummulla while ignoring the traffic light which signalled red at that time. The vehicle had then collided with the motorcycle of the OIC thereby leaving him critically injured.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the defender jeep was recovered by police officers using the assisstance of CCTV footage at a residence in Pagoda Gardens, Pelawatte, Battaramulla.
Crime Scene Investigation Unit (SOCCO) officials had carried out investigations at the residence, police said.
