The Police today (Oct 16) reminded drivers to display their contact details on vehicles while leaving them unattended along roads, failing which steps would be taken to dismantle the suspicious vehicles.
“We will dismantle any suspicious vehicle with the assistance of the Bomb Disposal Units of the Special Task Force or other security units to conduct a thorough search,” Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He made this remark after panic spread in Mattakuliya this morning, upon witnessing an abandoned vehicle near a Church in the area. Mr. Gunasekara said that the driver had parked the vehicle on the road last night after facing a mechanical failure.
“No suspicious objects had been found in the vehicle during a search carried out by the police after the driver had arrived at the location,” he emphasised.
The Police Spokesman noted that the identities of the driver and the owner of the vehicle have been established.
However, he advised drivers to act responsibly when parking vehicles on the road.
