The Post and Telecommunications Officers' Association memebers have decided to engage in trade union action by utilising their sick-leave from midnight today until tomorrow owing to several salary anomalies that remain unresolved.
General Secretary of the Association H.K. Kariyawasam commenting on the situation said that a postal strike was launched in June last year owing to ongoing recruitment issues that have prevailed for more than 12 years which eventually led to salary issues.
He added that according to the recommendations of the Salaries and Cadre Commission to rectify the anomalies, following cabinet approval to increase salaries last year, effective from July 1, the President directed the Salaries Commission accordingly.
However, Mr. Kariyawasam claimed that the Commission had failed to act upon these recommendations since then.
