President calls on Presidential candidates to declare environmental protection policies

President Maithripala Sirisena has called on all presidential candidates to clearly outline their environmental protection policies as part of their pledges to the people.

Speaking at the Presidential Environmental Awards in Colombo today (Oct 29), the President insisted that environmental protection should be given the utmost priority in the manifestos of presidential candidates.

He said that the destruction of the environment is a violation of the right to life of all living beings.

The event organized by the Central Environmental Authority at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre saw awards being distributed under 20 categories to recognize environmental protection efforts in the country.
