President Maithripala Sirisena has hit out at the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday bombings by stating that he did not approve of the disclosure of confidential state intelligence information before the media.
During a meeting held with senior police officers, the President pointed out that the Attorney General (AG) had informed him that the PSC was an obstruction to five ongoing Supreme Court cases on the terrorist attacks.
A letter which was sent to the Speaker conveying the AG's stance on the Committee had not been tabled before Parliament, President Sirisena had claimed.
He had proceeded to note that he would undertake the responsibility of ensuring that those serving currently in the intelligence service will not be summoned before the PSC.
Meanwhile, the President had also said that Rs 2.5 million each had been donated to the families of three police officers who lost their lives during search operations in the aftermath of the terror attacks.
He had further noted that Rs 1 million each had been granted to the Muslims who had provided tip-offs on the terrorist hideout in Sainthamaruthu.
