President Maithripala Sirisena was among several politicians who took to twitter yesterday to condole the passing away of veteran politician and former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.
“Veteran Politician Ratnasiri Wickremanayake was loved by his people for many decades. My condolences are with his loved ones and followers.” President Sirisena said in a Twitter message.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also took to twitter to condole Mr.Wickremanayake’s demise.
“Deeply saddened by the death of former Sri Lankan PM and veteran politician Ratnasiri Wickremanayake. My condolences to his family,’ the former President said.
Ratnasiri Wickramanayake who passed away last afternoon at a private hospital in Colombo at the age of 83 served as Prime Minister for five years under President Rajapaksa between 2005-2010.
MP Namal Rajapaksa said Ratnasiri Wickremanayake always had time for younger politicians.” His loss will be greatly felt by the entire nation,” he said in a Twitter message.
The funeral of Mr. Wickremanayake will be held on December 31 at Horana.
