President Maithripala Sirisena today granted a presidential pardon to a former LTTE cadre, convicted on charges of attempting to assassinate him in 2006 at an event.
The convict was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Polonnaruwa High Court on July 3, 2015 and it was upheld by the Supreme Court. President Sirisena met the convict Sivaraja Jenivan during the celebrations held at the BMICH today to mark the President’s first year in office.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
