President Maithripala Sirisena has rejected social media reports that he will deliver a special address on November 18, the President's Media Office said today (Nov 12).
Issuing a statement, the President's Office said these false reports had stated that the President had regretted certain decisions taken under his rule, and that he would reveal them in his address.
These reports had falsely quoted the President as making these remarks during a discussion with his family members and close associates.
"The President has expressed extreme regret over certain false news reports being shared by certain parties in the eve of the presidential election," the statement added.
President Sirisena's nearly-five year term in office will end following the presidential poll on November 16.
