President Maithripala Sirisena has told today's cabinet meeting, he would issue a clarification on the pardoning of Royal Park offender Anthony Jayamaha.
Mr Jayamaha, convicted of murdering a 19-year-old Swedish national Yvonne Johnson, at the Royal Park housing complex in Rajagiriya in 2005, was granted presidential pardon last week, drawing criticism from several parties.
President Maithripala Sirisena had granted a pardon, after previously stating that he had spent his term on good behaviour.
However, the President had told cabinet ministers that the decision had been taken on the recommendations of three Appeal Court judges, a senior cabinet minister said quoting the President.
