The Presidential Secretariat has rejected claims made by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) that Rs 8 billion has been allocated, through the budget, for the personal expenses of the President.
Issuing a statement, the Presidential Secretariat said that neither the current President nor his predecessors have received budgetary allocations for personal expenses.
The statement came in the wake of JVP General Secretary Vijitha Herath's remarks at a news conference that Rs 2.4 billion has been allocated for the President, through the interim budget for the first quarter of 2020 which was passed in Parliament last week.
However, the statement noted that budgetary allocations for the President are used only for the activities of the Presidential Secretariat.
"The current President has allocated a major portion of his allocation towards development activities involving the Presidential Task Force."
