President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (Jan 6) called on the ambassadors of EU countries to view Sri Lanka as an investment hub, the President’s Office said.
The President had made these remarks during a meeting with the ambassadors of France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, and the EU, at the Presidential Secretariat.
Explaining Sri Lanka's non-aligned foreign policy, President Rajapaksa had highlighted that powerful countries should support smaller nations such as Sri Lanka to achieve regional empowerment.
Commenting on Sri Lanka's 13th constitutional amendment, he had pointed out that certain clauses were impractical.
Rajapaksa had pointed out that vesting defence-related powers with provincial councils as recommended by the amendement could result in the politicization of law enforcement bodies.
On the lines of agriculture, the President had stated that the possibility of setting up green houses in the country needs to be studied further.
He had stressed the need to utilize organic fertilizer in cultivation instead of agro-chemicals.
The Ambassadors had welcomed the President's steps taken towards eradicating corruption, ensuring transparency, and prioritizing meritocracy, the President's Office noted.
