The Surveyor General Department officials were turned back by residents of Vadduvaakal in Mullivaikal, Mullaithivu today when they tried to commence surveying to acquire 617 acres of private lands for security
reasons.
Blocking the officials not to survey the lands, the residents staged a protest saying they will never allow them to surveying lands and demanded their lands should be returned back to them for resettlement.
A letter of notice was sent to the respective Grama Sevaka early this week notifying the lands were to be acquired for security purposes and urging residents to be present with their deeds if they have any issues pertaining to acquisition. The land acquisition process was to be held for three days consequently.
