Minister Ravi Karunanayake has requested the general public to use electricity sparingly due to the gradual decline of water levels these days.
Addressing a press briefing, the Power and Energy Minister said that upto 100 megawatts of electricity could be saved if two light bulbs are kept switched off every day.
“We will not allow this situation to result in power failures,” Mr. Karunanayake told the press adding that the support of the public was essential in this regard.
Speaking further, he said that this situation is expected to remain for nearly one-and-a half months.
“There is no need to increase the electricity bill or purchase additional power at the moment,” the Minister pointed out adding that electricity is being obtained from thermal plants due to the current situation.
