The Puttalam Magistrates Court today (Feb 04) issued a 48-hour detention order for questioning on the mother who had killed her four-year-old child in Puttalam last week.
The mother was taken into custody after she had surrendered to have murdered the child and later thrown it into the Kala Oya.
Police said that the suspect was questioned for several hours following the arrest. Arrangements have been made to produce her before a psychiatrist.
Meanwhile, police officials had to temporarily halt the search operation to recover the body of the child today due to the heavy rains in the area. The search operation is expected to be continued tomorrow.
